Q:  My door will not close since the last time I opened it.  I hear a clicking but it won't move.  What can I do?

A:  First, see if the door will run closed with constant pressure.  Push and hold the down button on the wall.  If it closes your problem is most likely in the photo eye circuit.  Check to see if the red LED on the photo eye receiver is lit.  If not, the photo eyes may be miss-aligned or dirty.  Make sure the wire from the photo eyes to the opener is intact and properly fastened at both ends.  And of course, check to make sure there is no obstruction blocking the eyes.

If the door will not close with constant pressure you may have a faulty limit switch, or perhaps even more serious problems in the circuit board.

Further troubleshooting is available for MVP operators via the blinking LED lights on the back of the operator.  Refer to the MVP Manual for in-depth instructions.

Q:  My door will not open or close from either the wall station or the transmitter.  Also, the stop button is lit up but the up and down buttons on the wall station no longer light up.  Any suggestions?

A:  This is an easy one that happens to even the best of us.  Go to the wall station and check the vacation switch.  You have probably accidentally switched it to the locked position.  Simply move it to the unlock position and you should be good to go.

If you rarely ever use the vacation function you can disable it.  Hidden just under the vacation switch is a small opening with another switch.  Turn it off and the vacation lock function will no longer work.  Check your owners manual for complete instructions.

Q:  I have a new MVP remote control and am having trouble programming it.  Could you guide me through?

A:  Programming steps as follows:

  1. Press and hold the "+" button, then press and hold the "-" button.  Release both buttons immediately as soon as the LED blinks.  You are now in programming mode.
  2. Press and release one button corresponding to the button you want to program.
  3. Enter your nine digit code by pressing and releasing the "+", "0", and "-" buttons in whatever sequence you desire.  When you enter the last code the LED will blink twice letting you know your code is accepted and that button is programmed.

For more detailed information click on the following MVP Programming link and view a PowerPoint demo or see a short movie in .mov or .avi format.

The 9931 & 9921 transmitters have migrated to a new format.  For detailed info click on Classic Programming to be taken to a PowerPoint demo.

Q:  My MVP operator learns the transmitter code but additional transmitters will not activate it.

A:  In field tests we have found that the transmitter used to program the operator was coded differently than the additional transmitters.  The installer may have inadvertently pushed an incorrect button.

Solution:

  1. Recode the transmitter in question to match the code selected for that door.

  2. Erase the code in the operator.

  3. Re-program the operator with the transmitter that has just been recoded.

  4. Test the remaining transmitters.

Q:  My MVP operator will not learn a new transmitter code.

A:  Solution:  There are a couple of different issues that may cause this.

  1. First, the operator is designed to remember up to eight different codes.  Several different codes may have been entered during the installation and test process.  Or, you may have misplaced or taken transmitters out of service.  If you have reached eight codes in memory you will either need to recode additional transmitters to an existing code, or erase the memory and relearn just those transmitters that you intend on using.

  2. Second, check the vacation switch.  If the switch has been left in the locked position, not only will the operator prevent activation by a transmitter, but you will be unable to teach new codes to the operator.  Unlock and proceed.

Q:  Are the Allstar, Challenger and MVP photo eyes interchangeable?

A:  The Allstar photo eye system (All-Clear) will only work with Allstar operators, such as the 3000, 3500, 6000 and 6500.

The MVP and Challenger photo eyes (Safe Finish) are compatible with each other, but will not work with the 3000 and 6000 series operators.
